Wishbones for Pets: A Food and Supply Drive to Benefit the Providence Animal Rescue League
Furry Friends Pet Care Services, in partnership with Sophie’s Dog House, is pleased to announce its First Annual Wishbones for Pets Charity Drive.
November 14, 2008
From now until Thanksgiving, they will be collecting monetary donations, food, and supplies to benefit the Providence Animal Rescue League (Providence, Rhode Island). With the current foreclosure crisis, compounded with our country’s economic downturn, more and more animals are being surrendered to shelters and the need for food and supplies is greater than ever.
Wishbones for Pets is a national charity drive organized by pet sitters during the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. The mission of Wishbones for Pets is to offer a universal community service program hosted by pet sitters that would like to collect and distribute pet goods/funds for local pet shelters and other pet related agencies in their own community. Pet sitters care about their community, the pet sitting industry, and most importantly, the animals.
Alysha Fraser, owner of Furry Friends Pet Care Services (Cranston, Rhode Island), was introduced to the program by another pet sitter who has been running the drive in her state for the past few years and has had great results. As a volunteer at the Providence Animal Rescue League, Alysha saw firsthand how many more animals are being surrendered and was determined to do something to help. She contacted Tara Valletta of Sophie’s Dog House (Johnston, Rhode Island), and together they have put together a Wishbones drive in Rhode Island. They have also teamed up with some great pet businesses all over Rhode Island who are supporting the cause by becoming drop-off locations for anyone wishing to donate.
The Providence Animal Rescue League was chosen as this year’s local charity because they, unlike city or state funded shelters, relay solely on grants and private donations. Also, because they offer many wonderful programs for the residents of this state like spay/neuter assistance, microchipping, training classes, and so much more!
