Little Champions, Big Heroes
Wig Wag Productions is currently working on a TV pilot called "Little Champions" about disabled and elderly dogs.
'Little Champions' is a heartwarming show that doesn't focus on their disabilities but rather on how they adapt and what they teach their families in the process.
'Little Champions' is a feel-good, uplifting, and emotional experience in 12 one-hour reality episodes. Guided by a host, the audience is introduced to very special dogs that have happy and rewarding lives despite their disabilities. The program will focus on dogs with handicaps such as blindness, deafness, loss of limbs, and other challenges which would disqualify them from most dog competitions.
The show will visit the families and their dogs in their homes where we get to see how these dogs go through their day and how they interact with their families. The family tells stories of the special qualities and gifts of their dog. They talk of what their dogs have brought to their lives, what they learned, and how their dog amazes them as they triumph over their disability. During this segment more information will be offered through interviews with the dog’s veterinarians in their office. They can explain more details about the condition and discuss interesting facts, treatments, and possible warning signs. About seven dogs will be featured during each episode.
The host introduces each of the seven dogs during the competition. The music is upbeat, exciting, and contemporary. Each dog gets to meet and greet each judge. The winner of the regional receives a beautiful ribbon. The winner of the semi-final then goes on to compete in the final for “Overall Best of Champions” with a larger prize sponsored by a pet-related company. The final is the 12th episode, which will include the previous 11 semi-finalists. During the competitions the home TV audience will be able to text in their favorite to win but the decision will be made by the panel of judges along with the audience.
The Little Champions web site features videos of some of these special dogs and their families. The web site will also offer owners a wide range of resources for every stage of their dog's life.
