The National Cat Protection Society Retirement Center
The National Cat Protection Society (Newport Beach, California 92663; Spring Valley, California 91977) takes in owner-relinquished cats that need a place to stay while responsible homes are sought.
All cats are assured clean, comfortable living quarters in new state-of-the-art facilities. Both locations provide protected access to the “outdoors” in large enclosed patio areas, and are managed by staff and volunteers who each share a tremendous love for cats. Each location also handles adoptions and retirements.
Both cat shelters offer the option of Lifetime Care in National Cat's progressive Retirement Centers. To be eligible for this program, cats must meet certain health and medical requirements. There is a one-time fee for each cat.
All of the cats in the Lifetime Care program receive high-quality food, special dental and medical care, and individual attention on a regular basis. National Cat even maintains a fully equipped clinic on-site to ensure health and happiness among our feline friends. Its staff and volunteers take every opportunity possible to visit and play with the cats inside the Center as well as “outside” in its large enclosed patio areas, ensuring that their golden years are some of their best years.
The National Cat Protection Society was founded more than 35 years ago by the singular efforts of Mr. C. Richard Calore. During World War II, he found himself deep in a fox hole in France during the dead cold of winter. Sometime during the long cold night, in wandered this furry little creature who kept him both warm and company throughout the long night. Mr. Calore decided that he would dedicate his life to raise public awareness and to teach kindness and humane treatment to all animals. Mr. Calore vowed a safe haven for cats.
His widow, Mrs. Gerri Calore, carries on his crusade to this cause. She is the Public Relations Director at the Spring Valley Shelter.
