Peanut Corporation of America Provides Further Information Regarding Recalled Products
Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) wishes to provide important information regarding food shipped from its Georgia and Texas plants in light of its filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in U.S. bankruptcy court in Virginia on February 13, 2009.
February 20, 2009
The firm's assets are currently under the control of a bankruptcy trustee, which impacts the company's ability to take any actions regarding recalled products that were shipped from its Georgia and Texas plants.
On January 28, 2009, PCA announced it was voluntarily recalling all peanuts and peanut products processed
in its Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007, because they have the potential to be contaminated
with Salmonella. In that announcement, PCA stated that it was notifying customers who received recalled
products and instructed customers to segregate and hold the product and call PCA for further instructions.
In light of PCA's current operational status, it is no longer able to communicate with customers of recalled
product, and the previous instruction for customers to contact PCA is no longer applicable.
Further, on February 12, 2009, the Texas Department of State Health Services ordered PCA to cease the
manufacture and distribution of all food products from its Plainview, Texas plant and to immediately recall
all products manufactured there since March 2005.
In light of PCA's bankruptcy and the recalls described above, PCA is informing customers who received
products from its Georgia or Texas plants not to distribute or further use those products. Consumers who wish to report adverse actions or other problems can contact the FDA complaint coordinator in their state via the FDA web site.
