Your Pet's Longevity Could Be Affected By Diet More Than Any Other Factor

You’ve heard the expression, “You are what you eat.” It is especially true for pets.

Don’t be fooled by those slick ads on TV run by the major brands of your favorite dog and cat foods says entrepreneur/direct marketer John Karstetter. You’ve heard the expression, “You are what you eat.” It is especially true for pets. Like humans, pets may also be lacking in a daily nutritious, antioxidant, and digestible diet.

Most pet foods sold today contain the 5 Ds: dead, diseased, dying, disabled, and drugged animals. Also included in the ingredients labeled as by-products are animal intestines and brains, chicken heads, duck bills, fish heads, chicken and turkey feet, hides, feathers, hair, bones, dead animals that may have been treated with antibiotics or hormones, beef tallow or animal fat (lard), animal digest, and “road kill.”

Many pets suffer from lifelong allergies. Known causes are ground yellow corn, corn gluten meal, whole grain corn, ground whole wheat, whole grain sorghum, and whole wheat flour. These ingredients are found in most name brand pet foods. Of course, a veterinarian can provide medicine, but these allergies never seem to go away.

People are beginning to realize that a pet’s diet may be the most important factor for a dog or cat’s extended life. According to Dr. Jane Bicks, DVM, the average dog and cat lives between 12 and 15 years. Yet genetically the average dog could live into their late 20s and cat to 30 or beyond. How? Their diet, says Dr. Bicks.

She has developed a line of pet foods, sold under the name Life’s Abundance, that consist of chicken meal, fish meal, carrots, apples, celery, ground brown rice, flaxseed meal, alfalfa meal, spinach, and probiotics (friendly bacteria to help with digestion and a stronger immune system.) And finally, maybe the most important ingredient, grape seed extract. Grape seed extract contains phytonutrients which are powerful antioxidants. They help support the immune system of both animals and humans against the two major killers, heart disease and cancer, plus all other diseases. Many people take grape seed extract to help against cell damage from free radicals.

What is the pet’s reaction to this holistic diet? They love it, says Dr. Jane.
