Help Stop Cat Overpopulation: Spay or Neuter Your Cat
According to the ASPCA, approximately eight to 12 million companion animals enter shelters each year, and approximately five to nine million of those animals are euthanized; about 70 percent of those are cats.
Help the Humane Society of Huron Valley (Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105) help stop cat overpopulation:
- Spay or neuter your cats: Kittens as young as two months and weighing two pounds can be safely sterilized. HSHV offers low cost spay and neutering. Call HSHV’s vet clinic at (734) 662-4365 to schedule an appointment.
- Contact HSHV (or your local shelter or humane society) about homeless or wild cats in your area: If you are caring for feral or stray cats please give HSHV a call at (734) 662-5585. The shelter is currently starting a trap, neuter and return (TNR) program.
- Become a foster parent: HSHV offers a quick training program for anyone willing to make a six to eight week commitment to foster mother cats and kittens. Call (734) 662-5585 for more info.
- Adopt: Consider opening your home to a new cat or a playmate for your existing cat and remember that adult many cats need homes. HSHV is offering a cat adoption special for the month of November. Adopt one cat and get the second cat at half the adoption price.
- Donate: Donate to or sponsor HSHV’s spay/neuter program. Call (734) 662-5585 x 125 for more information.
