Adoptable Senior/Special Needs: Sophia
Sophia is a 7- to 8-year-old female Bulldog mix available for adoption from New Leash on Life Chicago (Chicago, Illinois 60618).

Sophia is an unbelievably sweet and silly girl who NLOL transferred from Chicago's Animal Care and Control. Her owner had tied her up outside of the shelter with old contact info on her tags, and when the person on the tags was contacted it was revealed that he had given her up years ago to someone else and didn't want her back. NLOL was appalled - surely this is no way to treat such a dignified and wonderful dog! NLOL was extra-happy to add her to its transfer list that day.
There's something special about this girl that touches people's hearts. Her caretakers (at the vet and at her boarding facility) call her the "sweetest girl ever" and every person who comes into contact with her talks about how unique she is. When she first joined NLOL, Sophia had entropion (rolled-in eyelids) involving her bottom eyelashes and terrible coat and skin. After some plastic surgery and a few weeks of quality food, she is doing great and can see without pain again! Sophia is a remarkably healthy Bulldog mix and the only chronic issue she has is dry eye, which will require eye drops for the rest of her life. Fortunately she doesn't mind this at all and sits quietly for the twice-daily insertion. She's such a good girl!
If you can't adopt Sophia, would you consider fostering her?
